Privacy Policy
In short: UbuntuBox has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your Ubuntu system and everything in it stay on your phone. The app connects to the internet only to download what you ask it to install, and to check whether a new version of UbuntuBox is available.
Who we are
UbuntuBox is made by BT4 Team (“we”). This policy explains what the UbuntuBox app for Android (“the app”) does with your information. It applies to the app and to this website, ubox.bt4team.com.
What stays on your phone
Everything you do in UbuntuBox is stored in the app's private storage on your phone and is never sent to us:
- The Ubuntu system, your files and folders, your command history and anything you install in Ubuntu.
- Your settings, such as theme, font, text size and keyboard options.
- Problem reports. If the app crashes or stops responding, it keeps a short technical report on your phone and shows it the next time you open the app. It is only shared if you choose to copy it and send it yourself.
We have no copy of any of this. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android's settings, deletes it.
When the app uses the internet
The app makes these connections. Each server receives what any web request carries, such as your IP address, the time and the type of software making the request.
| When | Connects to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Setting up Ubuntu, on phones where it isn't built into the app | Ubuntu's download server (cdimage.ubuntu.com) | To download Ubuntu. |
| When you or a program install packages | Ubuntu's package servers (archive.ubuntu.com, ports.ubuntu.com) | To download the packages. |
| When you install an AI agent or a toolchain from the Agent Hub | That tool's own download servers (for example Anthropic, Cursor, Google, OpenCode, NodeSource) | To run the tool's official installer. |
| A short while after you open the app, at most every few hours, and when you tap “Check for updates” | ubox.bt4team.com | To read update.json and see whether a newer version exists. Nothing about you or your phone is sent beyond the request itself. |
| Whatever you run in the terminal | Wherever that program connects | Programs you run in Ubuntu work as on any computer. |
The app does not collect usage statistics and does not contain advertising or analytics code.
Tools you install
AI agents and other programs you install in Ubuntu are made by other companies and run under their own terms and privacy policies. For example, an AI agent sends your prompts and code to its maker's service when you use it, and signs you in with your account there. Please read their policies before using them.
Links, clipboard and storage
- Links: when a program in Ubuntu asks to open a web page (for example to sign in), or you tap a link in the terminal, the app opens it in your phone's browser. Only web links (http and https) are opened.
- Clipboard: the app writes to the clipboard when you copy, and reads it only when you paste.
- Phone storage: only if you turn on “Phone storage in Ubuntu” in Settings does the app ask for
access to your phone's files, which then appear in Ubuntu at
/storage/emulated/0. Programs you run in Ubuntu can then read and change them. You can turn this off at any time. - Files app: your Ubuntu files appear in Android's Files app as “UbuntuBox”, so you and apps you choose can open them. Other apps can't reach them unless you pick them there.
Permissions
- Internet and network state: for the downloads above, and to warn you before large downloads on mobile data.
- Notifications: to show that sessions are running and setup progress, and to offer links when the app is in the background.
- Foreground service, wake lock and battery optimization: so terminal sessions and setup keep running when the screen is off. Turning off battery optimization is your choice in Settings.
- Storage (“All files access” on newer Android): only if you turn on phone storage in Ubuntu, as described above.
Children
UbuntuBox is a developer tool and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone.
This website
This website has no cookies, analytics or ads. Its pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's font servers. The web server may keep standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested) for security and operation.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and its effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
